In LOvE wIth SUrFacE PaTTeRn DeSiGn

My new found love for SPD must be credited to the extremely talented Rachael Taylor who has provided me with the confidence to develop, explore, experiment and spark new ideas. Thank you!!!

Love, Love, Love my new explosion of designs. I still have a long way to go and still need to find my signature style but I feel I am getting closer each day.
I must also thank Beth Nicholls and my amazing talented fellow surface lovers, who have given me lovely and encouraging feedback. Thank you all :)))

I just love the smile which has grown from this experience.

in love with marks, splats and dribbles xx

ROsEs, Swirls and DotS...

Back to the splats and swirls, however adding my love of RoSes to the mix.

CoNTROL, ORder, Mess FrEE ?

Trying really hard to allow control, repetition and simple layers become a happy balance with my dribbles, splats and marks ( which I love). I have a long way to go but enjoying the process so far.

HiDdEN ChECKS

Again I become obsessed with mess. Why am I so draw to spontaneous layers? I struggle with ordered patterns and find them boring and organised. What does that say about me?

Hopefully nothing to serious :)

RoSe SpLaSH ..x

'Rose Splash' is a design developed from a series of splats, marks and dribble paintings, combined with photos of roses take in the garden.  I would like to use these designs on items such as stationary, bags, mobile skin covers and kitchen ware.

I need to spend more time on one design, before rushing to the next, if I am to improve as a surface pattern designer. These designs need a lot of improvement such as more control, better compositional planning and colour combinations.
I'm enjoying the challenges and thats all that matters at this present time!

RePEat PaTtErNs

I love learning new techniques especially when they are quick, easy and fun. To achieve a better more polished repeat, I will endeavor to use illustrator more often and learn where those import tools are.

cOLour, ColOuR, CoLOur

Deconstructing old photos, has been a fun and easy way of identifying a variety of colour combinations. This activity has become addictive. Here are just a few of my new colour combinations which I plan to use in my next design.

MaRks, SplAts and DriBbles

Fun Fun Fun, exploring marks, splats and dribbles. I will use these at a later stage as backgrounds for future designs. For now I will enjoy the mess and process of letting go of control.

In love with Surface Pattern Design

Finally things are turning in a positive, exciting, enjoyable and full filled art making, creative time in my life. Since joining an online surface pattern design course, my creative self wants to spend every space moment drawing, painting and designing on photoshop. The only problem I have now is when to fit this time in. I'm just super happy that I feel back in-control of what i want to do and where I want to go.

Over the next few months I hope, no I will post regular images of my progress and ideas. Its time to join the world of bloggers and aim for a successful future making marks, splats and dribbles :) x

Green juice power has started to sparkle :)

Finally the layers of paint are starting to form and I'm actually enjoying myself. I think I'm getting somewhere. Would this have anything to do with green juice power? :)
I still want to at a few more layers of texture and marking making to areas of the canvas.
But
I'm ready to create more :) x

Green Juice Power

I've decided to join the power of green juice. So far I'm enjoying the interesting tastes which I have created. Kris Carr has inspired me to go green and blend. Since I love the colour of green why not make it part of my daily diet. Hopefully it will energize some creative spark :)

Where to next ???

Messy, uneven and tired - processes, themes and techniques, AAArrrrhhhhh I continue to stare onto the surface of a sad canvas or paper, design or painting. I'm still determined to fight my way through what feels like a jungle of vines. I must win this battle. I hate what I am producing but hopefully will break this circle of struggle.
Should I give up on what I felt was a style or process which I enjoyed to create? What was that? Should I instead, follow what feels like, a successful teaching of art? The outcomes that are produced from within my classroom are much more exciting. I am currently working on a project with year 7 which is inspired by Urban Decay, they are beginning to look great. I plan on teaching a different technique for each surface layer. Mono-print designs, stenciling and graffiti will be the first few processes. My students are enjoying the freedom and mess we are making.
Maybe a teacher to inspire ideas is just as rewarding, however I so do desire to be inspired by my own work.

I will continue to push through this.
